Three PhD theses supervised or co-supervised by UXAFORES members were defended in October, at the USC and two foreign universities. All of the PhD theses involve the study of emerging contaminants such as antibiotics and pesticides and their removal by environmentally appropriate and economically feasible methods. All were awarded the highest level of distinction.
5th November we said goodbye to our workmate and friend Belén Feijóo, member of PEMADE and UXAFORES for many years. Architect, excellent worker and an even better person, may she rest in peace.

The “proof of concept” PDC2021-120845-C55 Fuels (FuelsApp) subproject was led by members of UXAFORES research group and funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
A workshop entitled “Forest resources in Galicia: Digitalization and sustainability in biomass use” will be held on 4th June in the Higher Polytechnic Engineering School (EPSE) of the USC.
UXAFORES members will participate in two of the projects approved by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) in the call for the promotion of the forestry bioeconomy 2023. The projects will be conducted in 2024-2025 within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) funded by the European Union-NextGenerationEU.
The editorial Springer Cham has published two new books on current cutting edge research topics, in the first trimester of 2024, both with Professor Avelino Núñez as the coordinator.
Three PhD theses co-supervised by UXAFORES members have been defended in the EPSE in recent months. Two are related to forestry, with one reporting an in-depth study of forest fires in pine plantations and the other concerning short-rotation poplar plantations. The third, conducted within an international doctoral programme, investigates the fertilization of cacao in Panamanian agriculture.
PEMADE will run two training courses about wood structures, in June and July, in the PEMADE facilities in the Higher Polytechnic School of Lugo, in collaboration with the Galician Forest Industry Agency -XERA.
